Panic Depression Can Be Treated

Anxiety and depression do not always occur together, but studies have shown that it does occur about 50 to 60 percent of the time. Panic depression is a misnomer, however. It’s “panic disorder” and “clinical depression.”

There are four theories as to why anxiety disorders and clinical depression seem to go together.

1. Most people can’t distinguish different kinds of emotion. All they know is they feel upset.

2. Depression leads to anxiety. Because you’re depressed and feeling worthless or hopeless, you may worry that you feel this way, and be anxious that you’ll feel this way forever and that it will interfere with your personal and work life.

3. Anxiety leads to depression. Anxieties and phobias definitely interfere with personal and work lives, and its only natural that people feel depressed about this!

4. The Common Cause theory. According to this theory, anxiety and depression may have their own unique causes, or triggers, but they also share at least one common cause.

Want to find out if you may suffer from panic depression?

The causes for anxiety can be difficult to diagnose, as can the symptoms, but various self-administered tests exist where you can check yourself to see if you suffer from clinical depression or anxiety disorder. One site to go to find these tests is at the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, as well as those sites devoted strictly to clinical depression, like Depression Screening.

Children can also suffer from anxiety and depression, for a variety of reasons. Indeed, with the pressures of school and one’s peers, children are actually more inclined to anxiety and depression – as shown in the fact that teenagers have the highest suicide rate in America.

Removing the stigma of shame from anxiety disorder and clinical depression is the first step toward controlling or even curing these disorders.

Depression – Quick Cures

Depression – Quick Cures
By Jeanne Condon

Depression can be a paralyzing situation. It can last only hours or for days and months.

Depression can sometimes be described as hopeless and despairing, like being in a dark cave with no exit in sight.  The depressed person yearns for a return to ‘normal’ life, and though like being in a pit, cannot put themselves out.

There are several simple techniques to help relief the pain of depression and alleviate the symptoms.

Drink water. Most of the common ailments which hamper us could be reduced by being properly hydrated. Drinking a cup of water every hour on the hour is a method I use so I can be functioning at peak performance, mentally and physically.

Deep breathing. When we are babies we breath from our diaphragm. Sometime as children we transition to shallow breathing from our lungs, which is not as effective for getting oxygen to our brains. Lie down and put your hands on your abdomen. Breathe so that your belly raises and lowers with each inhale and exhale.

Exercise. Regular exercise is so necessary for keeping mind and body fit and healthy. Join a gym, ride a bike, swim, or go for a walk with the dog. Any activity will help perk up the mind of the depressed person. Force yourself to take that first step toward the activity and soon it will become almost automatic.

Nutrition. Eating properly is a very important key to maintaining mental health. Certain foods can cause biochemical reactions in the body which will affect moods. Keep a journal of what you eat and how it affects you. Do your best to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy, and protein. Today’s produce is deficient of the necessary nutrients for our optimal health and well being. It is necessary to add   vitamins and nutritional supplements to our diets. Included in this should be an endrocrine support supplement which will stabilize and balance hormones. For me, this has been one of the vital keys to my mental health.

Rest and a good night sleep. I think the Latin world with their ‘siestas’ have a good thing going. A midday rest gives the mind and body a needed break from the frenetic activity that defines our lives. Getting a solid night’s sleep helps the brain and melatonin restore to healthy levels. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that aids as an anti-oxidant and helps with some forms of depression.

Prayer. Our lives are on constant ‘go-go-go’! Praying to God opens up channels of grace that will aid in the restoration of hope and peace in our lives.

Just do it. If depression is keeping you from taking action on something necessary in your life, force yourself to go and do it. Many times the very action of activity will be the catalyst to help lift the depression.

Friends. Have a couple of friends that you can count on to share with and lean on. Feelings of loneliness can become more acute with depression. Trusted friends will offer wise counsel and patient advice to help and not hurt you.

Professional help. Should the depression last longer than a week or two or symptoms of despair become life threatening, professional help should be sought!! Prescribed medicines can provide the stimulus for healing where the simple home ‘remedies’ outlined above are not working.

Above all, do not be afraid. You are not alone. Your life is a beautiful gift waiting to be unwrapped. Follow the steps and find sunny days once again shining on you!

Panic Disorder or Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Category: Anxiety & DepressionEstelleB @ 12:32 PM

What are You Experiencing?

It is not uncommon for a person suffering anxiety and depression to also experience panic disorders or generalized anxiety disorder. What this means is that the sufferer may get panic attacks complete with dizziness and shortness of breath.

These types of panic attacks occur in both men and women and usually reach their peak at 10 minutes. Sufferers of generalized panic disorder, however, will usually experience longer periods of anxiety. It may be harder to pinpoint the cases of generalized panic disorder because it may not be related to a specific object or situation.

It’s been scientifically reported that even mild anxiety symptoms can negatively effect a person’s depression. These studies show that a depressed person who suffers anxiety is less likely to return to a normal daily routine. Therefore, whenever anxiety is present in the life of someone suffering depression, the cause of that anxiety must be examined and alleviated because it may make depression even worse.

Anxiety and Depression – Two Different Conditions

Category: Anxiety & DepressionEstelleB @ 4:00 PM

Two emotions that are closely intertwined are anxiety and depression. Symptoms of each emotion may be similar, but there are other things about these emotions that make them quite unique. To get treatment for your anxiety and /or depression, it’s helpful to know more about each condition — how they differ and how they are similar.

The first thing we must understand is that anxiety has been present in our lives since the beginning of time; and that throughout time it has helped increase our survival rate. Anxiety manifests as the emotions of fear and worry and the physical sensations of chest pains, nausea, a rapid heart beat, an elevated blood pressure and a slowed digestive system. These conditions may be unpleasant when they occur, but they are usually involuntary. Anxiety is a naturally occurring condition that originates in the brain’s hippocampus and the amygdala In this regard anxiety is a natural response coming directly from our genetic makeup.

The point that we are concerned with in our lives today is that although anxiety is normal, too much of it in our lives is often not a good thing. When depression and anxiety become intertwined, the condition usually requires investigation as a medical issue. Depression may happen to you after you’ve suffered anxious feelings of extreme terror or dread. Depression is also the result of living with anxiety for years and getting no help or treatment to alleviate the anxiety.
